Here at tlw we might like to do a little dirty flirting but we're all about keeping it clean. That's why all of our products steer clear of the ingredients below. Let's get down and dirty and talk about the chemicals you need to watch out for.
Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA) and Butylated Hydroxytoluene (BHT): These chemicals are known to cause allergic reactions on the skin and interferes with naturally occurring hormones. Studies have shown that long term exposure of BHA and BHT to be toxic to rodents and cause problems with reproductive health in humans.
Mineral Oil and Paraffin: These are byproducts from distilling petroleum and are known to cause cancer.
Sulphates: These help to give your soaps that luxurious froth and foam when you scrub but they’re not all fun and games. It’s probably the least of all evils in terms of chemicals but it’s been known to irritate the skin and deplete your hair of natural oils.
Cyclic Silicones: Studies show that these can cause reproductive problems and also cause problems with the endocrine system.
Phthalates: Not only are these insanely difficult to pronounce, but they’re also known to cause cancer and disrupt natural hormone production. They’re no fun no matter how you say it.
Formaldehyde: This is that smelly stuff that you remember from science class in school. It’s a common chemical used to preserve specimens like those dead frogs you grudgingly dissected. Formaldehyde is known to cause cancer when inhaled and is guilty of causing headaches and difficulty breathing.
Parabens: These are commonly used to preserve products and give fragrance. Don’t be lured by the sweet smell and lack of parabens listed on the label. Scents are considered a trade secret so they aren’t required to be listed on a product label. Parabens easily penetrate the skin and are known to interfere with hormones and cause reproductive problems.
Don’t be surprised if you see any of these ingredients on labels you have in your bathroom. If you’re looking for a clean alternative, tlw. products always have your back. We got you, girl.
